Recently, Fisher et al.
(2001; 2002) used molecular methods to establish that populations
of Coccidioides immitis
were not homogeneous and should be divided between
Californian C. immitis
and the newly named non-Californian species Coccidioides posadasii, to honour
Alejandro Posadas.
